Rahma, The Girl with a Million Dreams

Rahma, The Girl with a Million Dreams

21 November 2021

If you stop by the HOME Children Learning Center, Cimanggis, Depok, you will meet many innocent, funny figures with big ambitions to learn. One of them is Rahma, a girl with a white veil who is diligent in studying is a cheerful person who talks a lot and have a million dreams. When met by the Human Initiative team on Tuesday, November 9, 2021, Rahma looked serious in completing her chemistry course assignment.

Rahma and Her Million Dreams

“I don’t know what I want to be,” she answered when asked what her goals were so that she studied that hard. “I want to be a pharmacist, but I also want to be a doctor,”s he said with a smile.

Honestly, Rahma was annoyed because someone said something to her a few years ago. “Women don’t have to go to high school, when they graduate from high school, they just get married,” those words had shaken her until she finally made it an impetus to keep going and study harder.

At school, Rahma’s name shines brightly. Since the 1st grade of elementary school until now in high school she has never been absent to be on the list of the top 10 best students in her class. Since the first, her habit of reading books has made her more curious about science.

Of extracurricular activities available at the school (English club, paskibra, scouts, Japanese club, taekwondo, math club) Rahma joins the math club. “I like math, because it’s fun for me to calculate and solve math problems.” she said laughing.

Apart from being the best in academics, Rahma is also active in attending regular recitations held by local community head near her house. After every Maghrib Prayer from Monday to Saturday she would rush to the house of the community head to learn to read the Qur’an, listen to stories of the prophet, and stories about heaven and hell.

At home, Rahma lives with her grandmother, mother, and younger brother who are still in the 8th grade of junior high school. Her mother is the backbone of the small family. She works hard to support her children and parents by working as a household assistant in several people’s homes. For this reason, Rahma has a great desire to make her mother happy.

“I want to buy a house for my parents,” she said with a smile.
