Reviewing the Needs of Morocco Earthquake Survivors, Human Aid Initiative UK Visits the Amizmiz Region

22 September 2023

Amizmiz, Morocco – In response to the earthquake that struck Morocco on September 9, 2023, Human Aid Initiative UK, a strategic partner of Human Initiative, along with the local Non-Governmental Organization (NGO) in Morocco, KITABI, visited the Amizmiz region in South Marrakech, Morocco, on September 18th. This joint visit by the two organizations was aimed at assessing the appropriate needs for earthquake survivors.

Susilo, a volunteer from Human Aid Initiative UK (HAI UK), revealed that during the initial assessment with KITABI, they found that almost all of the residents’ houses were severely damaged. Up to that point, one of the affected villages was still living in tents.

“We visited one of the mountain villages affected by the earthquake. There are approximately 180 households there. Almost all buildings are severely damaged, and they are living in tents,” Susilo reported.

Collaborating with KITABI, which focuses on programs for children and women, HAI UK has identified the needs of Morocco earthquake survivors in Amizmiz. The first distribution includes the provision of hygiene kits for children and women, including wet wipes, disposable diapers, women’s sanitary pads, children’s clothing, milk/cereal, toys/dolls, and more.
