The Hapkido Silver Medalist and Quran Memorizer

22 June 2023

Meet Zau, whose full name is Zauharatunnisak (19). She is a fourth-semester student of Agricultural Engineering at Syiah Kuala University, and she recently shared some great news with those who played a significant role in his achievements. Zau, who has also memorized the Quran, represents the Hapkido Student Activity Unit (UKM) on her campus. She won two silver medals in Hapkido martial arts in the Hyung (art) and Daeryun (fighter) categories at the Hapkido martial arts championship held between Dojangs in Aceh.

Zau’s family and campus are overjoyed with her success. The Syiah Kuala University Charity House (USK) and Human Initiative also feel immense pride because Zau is a beneficiary of the Rukosmal scholarship (Rumoh Kos Amal), which is the result of a collaborative effort between the Syiah Kuala Charity House and Human Initiative.

The Hapkido championship, which brought together Dojangs (martial arts training center) from Aceh Province, took place on March 12, 2023, at the UIN Ar-Raniry Building in Banda Aceh. The championship featured two categories: Hyung (art) and Daeryun (fighter). These categories were further divided based on the age of the participants, including cadets under 10 years old, juniors, and seniors.

Discovering Hapkido

Zau’s journey into Hapkido is quite interesting. When she was in her second semester at university, Zau witnessed her friend competing in Hapkido at the 2021 National Sports Week (PON) in Papua. Inspired by her friend, Zau decided to join and learn Hapkido together.

“At first, I jokingly said to him, ‘Do you want a partner?’. As it turned out, she was indeed looking for someone to collaborate with and establish a Hapkido UKM at USK,” Zau shared.

Prior to the establishment of the Hapkido UKM at USK, Zau participated in Hapkido training at another campus UKM in Aceh. When the Hapkido UKM was formed at USK, Zau already had a good understanding of Hapkido, marking the beginning of her journey as a Hapkido athlete.

Zau’s Quran Memorization Journey

Zau fills her life with various productive activities, even amidst her academic pursuits. Alongside her involvement in organizations such as Himateta (Agricultural Engineering Student Association) and Al-Ihsan LDK, Zau dedicates herself to the Hapkido UKM, which has led her to achieve great success.

Moreover, Zau, who also secured second place in the Agricultural Engineering chess competition at her university, continues to expand her memorization of the Quran. Through the Rukosmal Scholarship program, Zau has currently memorized up to 2 Juz (parts) of the Quran. Together with other scholarship recipients, Zau aspires to further enhance his memorization.

Blessed with the gift of Quran memorization, Zau holds high aspirations. In Hapkido, she hopes to participate in the Aceh-North Sumatra PON match and represent Aceh Province with excellence.

Concerning her education and future, she consistently prays and strives to complete her studies on time. With these aspirations, Zau hopes to contribute to his family’s financial well-being, become a philanthropist like the donors who support her education, and establish assets and businesses for her future.

“Remain steadfast in all circumstances. Stay true to yourself no matter what. Everyone has their own destiny, so keep trying, as effort never betrays the results,” says Zauharatunnisak.

Zau’s knowledge and accomplishments serve as a testament to the power of kindness. It is hoped that Zau and her achievements will continue to inspire goodness. Join in and be a part of this positive impact by collaborating with Human Initiative in their various programs.
