Tia, Young Tahfiz Quran Teacher from Magelang

October 5 was designated by UNESCO as World Teacher’s Day to commemorate the services of teachers around the world. Therefore, today Human Initiative editorial team will specifically discuss an inspiring young tahfiz quran teacher named Tia from Central Java.

Her full name is Tia Cita Safira. The 2nd grade high school student is more familiar with a nickname Tia. She is a hafizoh even though he is only 16 years old. Because of her responsibilities as a hafizoh, she has become a tahfiz quran teacher at a relatively young age.

Activities at Al-Islam Magelang Al-Qur’an Education Park (TPA) where she teaches, are divided into 2 times, namely afternoon recitation and evening recitation. The afternoon recitation group starts at 15:30 WIB while the evening recitation group starts from Ba’da Magrib to Isha. The class is held every Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday.

When teaching, Tia divides her students into several groups. “I teach them Surat At-Takwir and ‘Abasa,” said Tia. She further said, “Usually there are 5 groups in class. 1 group has 6 students. Later, the children will be paired up for mutual murojaah (repeating rote memorization, or correcting forgotten/wrong verses) with the guidance of 1 teacher of the Koran.”

In total, there are 5 Koran teachers in TPA who are still in school with the guidance of Mr. Mutafiin as the senior Koran teacher and owner of the TPQ. “There are 3 teachers who are in grade 2 of high school, 1 teacher has graduated from high school, and 1 has just graduated from junior high. Another teacher is Mr. Mutafiin.” said Tia.

In addition to being a tahfiz teacher, the eldest of 2 siblings is also an online school at SMA Negeri 1 Grabag, Central Java. Usually, she starts school at 08:00. Luckily, Tia received data package assistance from the school for online school needs. “Top up the package 2 times a month. One top up costs Rp. 30,000.00. So I spend a total of IDR 60,000 a month for internet kuota.” she said.

Tia’s Starts to Become Tahfiz Quran Teacher

Tia, who really aspires to be a teacher, has been reading the Koran at the TPA since she was little and has finished. Therefore, since 2019, she has helped Mr. Mutafiin to become a tahfiz quran teacher.

Tia said, there are challenges in teaching children to memorize the Koran. For example some are difficult to memorize, some prefer to play, but some are easy to memorize. This is because each student has different abilities. For Tia, seeing her students succeed in memorizing the Quran is a joy for her.

“Every Saturday there is a recitation of Tajweed. Usually the students bring their own notebooks. They don’t have an Al-Quran at home, so they just use what’s on the TPA shelf,” said Tia.
