Umam’s Inspirational Story: Wants to Make his Parents Happy through the Qur’an

Initiator Friends, This time we will get to know Umam, our brother from Aceh who has an inspiring story. Let’s take a look at the story!

Umam is the second of four children. He is a student of PKPU Middle School which is a target school for the Human Initiative. Umam was inspired by her brother, Sabri, who has achievements in reciting and memorizing (tahfidz) the Qur’an. Since then, Umam started to be interested in the same field. Moreover, Umam’s parents also educate their children to be able to love Qur’an. Thus, Umam and her sister have full support of their parents.

Umam started participating in Quran Reading Contest (MTQ) activities at the age of 6 years. Precisely when he was in the 1st grade of elementary school. His enthusiasm for learning is very high. Plus, he has a strong competitive spirit. Umam’s parents also became more enthusiastic in training and accompanying Umam in studying the knowledge of the Qur’an.

Following MTQ from an Early Age

Umam firstly participated in the Musabaqah Tilawatil Qur’an (MTQ) Tartil Al-Qur’an branch at the age of 8 years. Since then, he has continued to participate in MTQ activities from the sub-district to district levels. At the district level, he won the 1st place for the Tartil Al-Qur’an branch. Despite being a champion, Umam was not complacent. For him, learning the Qur’an is not a competition with others but with oneself.

Over time, Umam began to learn how to memorize the Qur’an. In 2021, Umam won the 1st place in the Tahfidz Qur’an competition for the Men’s Raising Group at the XX Ramadhan Tunas Musabaqah. In 2022, Umam won the 1st place in the Tahfidz 1 Juz and Recitation competitions at the Aceh Province Level. Umam aspires to complete his memorization up to 30 Juz mutqin. ️

“I hope I can finish my memorization to 30 Juz and continue to make my parents proud,” said Umam.
