52 Days to Ramadan: The Spirit of Alms Giving in the Month of Ramadan

9 February 2022

Initiator Friends, you surely are aware that we are now getting closer to the month of Ramadan. Some of you might have started increasing your acts of worship such as almsgiving, to get used to it, so that when entering the month of Ramadan, you will be more mature and ready to complete your worship.

Rasulullah PBUH as a role model for all of us has set an example by increasing charity or alms to others in the month of Ramadan. In fact, as the Initiator Friends already know that in the month of Ramadan all our worship deeds will get a double reward from Allah SWT, including alms.

Perhaps you are wondering, why did the Messenger of Allah strongly recommend giving charity, especially in the month of Ramadan? Because giving alms in the month of Ramadan is the same as helping our fasting brother and Allah has promised that any Muslim who helps or makes it easier for his fasting brother will get the same reward.

This is in accordance with one of the hadiths which reads, “Whoever feeds the fasting person, then he will be rewarded like the fasting person, without reducing the reward of the fasting person in the slightest.” (HR. Tirmidhi no. 807, Ibn Majah no. 1746, and Ahmad 5:192).

The other virtues are also stated in the following hadith.

“Charity extinguishes sin as fire can be extinguished with water, so does one’s prayer in the middle of the night.” (HR. Tirmidhi no. 2616 and Ibn Majah no. 3973).

Initiator friends, of course you also don’t want to be left behind and you are getting more enthusiastic about giving charity, aren’t you? Incidentally, Human Initiative also has interesting programs for this year’s Ramadan.
