The month of Ramadhan provides an opportunity to purify ourselves from sins and establish good habits, including maintaining our health and weight. During fasting, our bodies do not receive the usual intake of food and fluids, so it is important to follow health tips to maintain our well-being. Here are some suggestions for maintaining weight during Ramadhan fasting:

1 Increase your water consumption.

Drinking water is essential for a healthy body during Ramadhan fasting. Reduced fluid intake can cause dehydration, leading to weakness and dizziness. Moreover, drinking water can help regulate weight. A study shows that drinking 2 liters of water per day can increase the body’s metabolism, helping to burn more calories. Therefore, try to maintain your water intake at dawn, during breaking your fast, and before going to bed at night.

2 Choose healthy and nutritious foods.

Choosing healthy and nutritious foods is crucial during Ramadhan fasting. Consume complex carbohydrates such as brown rice, whole wheat bread, potatoes, and sweet potatoes, which provide long-lasting energy and prevent hunger. Also, increase the intake of fruits and vegetables to replace the vitamins and minerals lost during fasting.

3 Avoid fatty and high-calorie foods.

Fatty and high-calorie foods can quickly cause weight gain during Ramadhan fasting. Avoid foods such as fried foods, chips, sweet pastries, and soft drinks, which contain high levels of fat and sugar.

4 Don’t skip Suhoor

Suhoor is essential for a healthy body during Ramadhan fasting. Breakfast provides enough energy to carry out daily activities and prevents excessive hunger, which can lead to weight gain.

5 Stay active by exercising.

Even though you’re fasting, stay active by exercising to maintain your health and weight. Light exercises such as walking or gymnastics can help burn calories and keep your body healthy. However, avoid strenuous or dehydrating exercises such as running in the hot sun.

These are some healthy tips for maintaining weight during Ramadhan fasting. Remember to maintain your body’s health and fitness to perform worship to the fullest during and after Ramadhan. If you wish to contribute to the Human Initiative’s Ramadhan program, please visit www.solutionpeduli.org.
