The Story of Ida, a Prospective Doctor from Adonara

“I want to make Mamak happy, I want to be a doctor,” said Ida Sudirman, smiling broadly at the Human Initiative volunteer. It is the story of Ida, a sweet girl from Watan Pao Village, Bloto Village, East Flores District, East Nusa Tenggara.

In this village, Ida lives with her grandmother. They live simply with all the limitations. Besides that, Ida also does a lot of religious activities with her friends.

Seeing the condition of the family which is quite apprehensive, Ida understands very well how to behave. She doesn’t like to complain to her grandmother and tries to understand the condition of their family. Every day Ida eats only once, only in the morning and never eats a snack even when she goes to school. Why? Because her grandmother had no money. Meanwhile her mother went to work outside the island and her father had passed away. Yes, Ida is an orphan.

Ida loves her mother very much, she wants to fulfill all her mother’s wishes. One of them is to become a doctor, although with various limitations. Ida has never been discouraged to keep learning.

There are many stories of the struggles of the children in remote areas of Indonesia and the high ideals they are trying to achieve.
