Humanitarian Assistance for Children Who Become Orphans due to Covid-19

2 September 2021

Jakarta – Human Initiative distributed humanitarian aid to orphans due to COVID-19 in the Jabodetabek area, on August 16, 2021.

Indonesia has been hit by the COVID-19 pandemic for almost two years. Everybody has been affected by the pandemic, including children. Many of them have become orphans due to the loss of their parents for COVID-19.

Human Initiative is a humanitarian organization that focuses on child protection programs. Based on this, Human Initiative distributed aid packages for orphans whose parents died due to COVID-19. The children receiving the benefits range from 4 to 17 years old.

The humanitarian aid packages were in the form of money for education, food packages, hygiene kits, and PPE in the form of masks and hand sanitizers.  The distribution of the aid took place for two days on August 15 and 16, 2021.

There are 22 areas in Jabodetabek areas where humanitarian aid is distributed to 39 children.  On Sunday (15/8), distribution was carried out at 12 points.  Then on Monday (16/8), the distribution was carried out at 10 points.

The distribution is carried out door-to-door to each of the homes of the orphans in the Jabodetabek area.  There were 3 volunteers from Human Initiative who participated in distributing the aid.

One of the beneficiaries, Azril Rahandrika (4 years old) was very happy and excited to open the aid package provided by the Human Initiative Volunteer. “He smiled and was very happy with the package he had received.  Azril has lost his mother because her mother died some time ago due to COVID-19,” said Salimah, a Human Initiative volunteer.

The distribution of the aids packages ran smoothly, although there were problems with the addresses of some orphans.  Some are in small alleys, some are in crowded villages, and so on.

All of this did not reduce the spirit of the volunteer team in distributing the mandate of the Initiator Friends who had donated their aid to orphans due to COVID-19.  “The struggle to find an address in a corner of Jakarta paid off when the orphans and their families welcomed them with a smile of happiness when they received the aid package,” continued Salimah.

For information, Human Initiative has a Foster Parents (OTA) program, namely educational assistance and assistance for orphans due to COVID-19 with the concept of foster parents or foster siblings, with a participatory and collaborative pattern, by forming a family and child-friendly environment. And on this occasion, the Human Initiative invites Initiator Friends to join the OTA Human Initiative program.
